MARYLAND SHOOTING
I really like this shooting drill! I got this drill from Michael Neighbors...from his email group. I used to run this drill at another school...I abandoned running it when I changed jobs. Having made another change in scenery this past year, I will be adding this drill once again...MARYLAND SHOOTING
It can be a little confusing at first, and that is where the genius of the drill lies...in its chaos! Chaos can be good for practice...I like to call it ORGANIZED CHAOS! Organized chaos makes our players think the game instead of just playing the game. It makes them communicate better! Wouldn't we all like to communicate better. If you are a coach, look at this drill. If you are a Pryor Basketball player, look at this drill (you will see it soon!)
Below I have provided the diagram and directions for running the drill... I have also provided the video for the drill.
One last thing...If you have a few minutes (5 or 7 free minutes) read the following article (link below) by Bob Starkey (asst women's coach at Texas A&M), on his website HoopThoughts. it is a really good read. I think it will help me become a better person as well as a better coach in the future.

12 BOOKS IN 12 MONTHS
I am a hoarder when it comes to basketball notes, books, and videos. I was reading through some notes last night from Michael Neighbors, head women's coach at the University of Washington. In 2012 he made an effort to read 12 books in the month of July (during recruiting season). I am not going to set my personal reading goals quite as lofty as his (he went on to say that he read 61 books in 2012...WOW!), however I am going to try to read at least 1 book each month. I feel that this is an attainable goal and in doing so, I would have read 12 more books than I read this past year!
While I have started several books this past year I did not finish one. So my first goal is to finish one of those books. I will start (and finish) How to Build and Sustain a Championship Culture by Jeff Janssen.
"The man who does not read has no advantage over the man who cannot read." - Mark Twain
If you are a coach and you do not subscribe to Michael Neighbors newsletters...you are missing out!

MICHIGAN STATE PRESEASON WORKOUT
This video is from the 2012 Michigan State Spartan workouts, I like the some of the footwork drills that they are doing and how they are incorporating them into their weight room workouts. I really like how the players are using medicine balls above during their footwork and agility drills. Soon to be seen at Pryor High School preseason workouts.

FOOTWORK
I feel my players often may feel like I emphasize footwork as a key component to their individual improvement. They may assume that "footwork" is my buzzword. I think an individual players key to improvement lies within their footwork, balance, and ball handling. So how do we improve a players footwork. First, we must emphasize its importance in our daily workouts. We should incorporate footwork drills in our weight room workouts. The use of ladders, dots and agility drills are all good ways to incorporate footwork into our workouts.

for each group.
Due to renovations in the Burdick Center we are moving our camp to Lincoln Elementary Gymnasium. We are staggering our camps into three sessions in order to keep the camp from being overcrowded in the smaller gymnasium
